International Year of Quantum Science and Technology

100 years after the formulation of quantum mechanics in 1925, the United Nations has proclaimed 2025 the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). In Germany, a wide range of events and activities are being organised under the motto ‘Quantum2025 - 100 years are just the beginning...’. The Cluster of Excellence is also taking part in the anniversary year.

The formulation of quantum mechanics a hundred years ago laid a lasting foundation for our physical understanding of nature. Now, the UN General Assembly has proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.

This year-long global initiative aims to honour the pioneering contributions of quantum science to technological progress over the past 100 years and to raise global awareness of its importance for achieving sustainable development in the 21st century.
