Nano and quantum physics usually examines tiny structures in the range of a few nanometres to a few atoms. To do this, researchers analyse hundreds to thousands of images and check them for errors. Often, recurring structures and patterns characterise the examined specimens. This is precisely what is known as the strength of another scientific discipline: artificial intelligence. A research project at the Technische Universität Braunschweig is now bringing together expertise from applied physics and machine learning in the research field of metrology. The project also benefits the activities of the Cluster of Excellence QuantumFrontiers on imaging techniques.
